“
This simulation is very useful to help market visitors as well as traders to be aware and fast reacted when fire happens. Through the simulation, we will give knowledge of piled up electricity connections which often to be the cause of fire ,” stated Head of Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department, Subejo, Monday (4/28).Short Circuit, Main Cause of Fires in CityPreviously, Vice Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama told that most of fire incidents in the city were caused by residents’ indiscipline attitude in using electricity. They do not obey safety standards of electricity installation which leads to electricity short circuit.
Based on Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department report, there are thousands of fire cases happened in a year in Jakarta which caused by electricity short circuit. To resolve the problem, Jakarta Provincial Government has sent a letter to State Electricity Company (PLN) to do immediate audit of electricity in illegal settlements.
“Electricity installation is conducted carelessly, many residents are not discipline. Most of the cause of fire cases is electricity short circuit that happened because the electricity load is too high. Thus, the cable cannot hold it and becomes too hot before it finally burned. Some traditional market buildings are too old, and have to be audited. We have sent a letter to PLN,” uttered Basuki.
As known, thousands of kiosks in Pasar Senen Blok III burned on Friday (4/25). Temporary allegation, the fire was caused by electricity short circuit. To make sure the cause of fire, Indonesian Police National Forensics Laboratory (Pusblafor) is deployed to conduct crime scene investigation. Besides Pasar Senen, fire also burned a store in Pasar Rumput, South Jakarta, Monday (4/28). Electricity short circuit is also alleged as cause of fire.
